Pens vs. Flyers

After a win yesterday against the New Jersey Devils, the Pens' 11th win in a row, the Pens face off against the Philadelphia Flyers today in Philly. A game less than 24 hours after the previous one. This means the Pens will need to be alert and ready to face the Flyers, who have been doing pretty well themselves lately. The Flyers are 7-1-1 in their past nine games and they are only 3 points behind the Pens currently in the standings. Flyers' goaltender, Ilya Bryzgalov, is a big part of the recent climb as he has lost only once, a shootout loss against the Bruins yesterday, in the month of March. Over the past 8 games, he has had 4 shutouts as well. This means that the Pens will need to take advantage of any opportunity for shots. Though, with the Flyers playing yesterday, we may see backup goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky in net today. Either way though, the Flyers have been strong defensively as of late and the Pens will still need to work to create some offense today to continue their win streak.

Yesterday's 5-2 win for the Pens could have easily been a higher scoring game for the Pens if it were not for Martin Brodeur in net. The Pens will need to be just as offensively minded today against the Flyers as well as strong defensively. The Flyers have some scoring power in the lineup that the Pens need to watch for. Therefore, the Pens will need to be sure to play an all around sound game and stay on their system.
It's a Flyers- Pens game and it is sure to be an exciting one, with two strong teams going against each other with such a rivalry all ready.

The Colorado Avalanche beat the New York Rangers last night, making it a little easier to reach our goal of surpassing the Rangers in the standings.

Pens face Lightning tonight.

Again, the Pens are in a warmer place preparing for a game, tonight's game is against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Fleury will be in net tonight and Crosby, is not in the lineup, just to reiterate. Michalek practiced with the team today, nearing the 4-week mark of a 4-6 week recovery period.

The Pens are on their annual dad's trip and in the past, that has usually meant the Pens have stepped up their games to make dear old dad proud, so let's hope that trend continues tonight. Also, the motivation of being eliminated by the Lightning in last year's playoffs may be an incentive to bring their "A" game as well. Either way, look for tonight's game to be an exciting one, not sure if it will be quite as exciting as the Colorado game, but you never know in the game of hockey.

What a game!

There is nothing quite like winning a game after being down by 2 goals multiple times, or any amount of goals for that matter. After being down 2-0 and 3-1, the Pens pulled off a spectacular 6-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche last night. We were lucky enough to see some amazing goals last night, from both teams and the talent and skill of these players never ceases to amaze me. The Pens had an overall team win last night with goals going to 6 different players: James Neal, Jordan Staal, Evgeni Malkin, Brooks Orpik, Pascal Dupuis and Kris Letang. If you missed the game, you need to watch some highlights!

Some team news: Eric Tangradi was sent back down to the Baby Pens and the Pens recalled Steve MacIntyre from his conditioing assignment with the Baby Pens.
This may come as a shock to you, but Sidney Crosby will not be in tomorrow night's lineup for the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Pens are currently on their Dad's trip so the past shows that Johnson is most likely to start in goal tomorrow night.

Pens host Colorado tonight.

The Pens and Consol Energy Center will play host to the Colorado Avalanche tonight. The game has a 7:30 start time tonight because it's on Versus, so don't be discouraged when the game isn't starting a little after 7 and also make sure you are on the right channel! Speaking of channels, here's a little news for you...
Tyler Kennedy is a game-time decision for tonight's game and so is Steve Sullivan and we all know Crosby's status. Dustin Jeffrey has been called up from his conditioning assignment with the Baby Pens.

Colorado has the best power play in the league, so the Pens will have to bring out their top penalty-killing tonight.

Pens name Tony Granato Assistant Coach.

It was announced today that Tony Granato will be Assistant Coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Granato has been behind the bench for the Colorado Avalanche the past 6 seasons. Granato was head coach for 3 of those seasons.
Granato is extremely excited for the opportunity to be coming to Pittsburgh. He looks forward to joining the organization and being a part of a successful team with such great players.

Pens face Colorado today.

Once again the Pens will be trying to get a win after a disappointing loss. This time to the Nashville Predators 5-3. One where the Pens had a 3-0 lead and let it slip away.
The Pens are in Colorado for a 3:00 game today where they will try to improve their slumping record. Some fans are calling for drastic measures to be taken and if the Pens continue on this downward spiral I can't see how some shakeup won't happen.
Anyways, in today's game, the Pens will need to raise their shot total to have a better chance of beating Andrew Raycroft, who has been playing pretty solid his past few starts.
