Pens sign goaltender John Curry.

John Curry was expected to re-sign with the Pens and he did so a few days ago. Curry signed a 2-way contract.
"Curry registered a 33-15-1 record in 50 games last season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL), earning a .916 save percentage and a 2.38 goals-against average. He made seven post-season appearances with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, posting a 4-3 record, a .885 save percentage and a 3.36 goals-against average."

The Penguins also signed 2 forwards that look to be fixtures with the AHL Baby Pens. The Pens signed Wade Brookbank and Wyatt Smith to one-year contracts.

Zigomanis not likely to return.

Many were hoping that Zigomanis could have been resigned and with news coming of the Craig Adams deal yesterday, many people's hopes were dashed. Though, still as of yesterday, there were some encouraging rumors still coming out about the possibility of signing Zigomanis. Now though, it appears by resigning Craig Adams, the Pens have made their choice and have gone with the cheaper option. Therefore, Zigomanis will not be returning to the Pens. The Pens would have liked to sign Zigomanis, but the cap-space is limited for the Pens and that leaves them in tough situations. I understand the money issue, but I would rather have Zigomanis than Adams. Zigomanis was a face-off specialist and when he was injured this past season, that is when the Pens woes began. This will be a loss for the Pens as they still do not have a player that is solid and consistent on fave-offs, but it is a loss we had to overcome this season and did so.

Also, yesterday the Pens made qualifying offers to 3 players: defenseman Ben Lovejoy, forward Tim Wallace and goaltender John Curry.

Curry named Reebok/AHL player of the week.

Wilkes Barre Scranton Baby Pens goaltender, John Curry was named the player of the week for last week as he had a perfect record going 3-0-0 in his appearances. He stopped 80 of 84 shots and continued his personal win streak to 8 games.
Congrats to Curry and the Baby Pens!

Boucher back tonight, Curry in net against Islanders.

Philippe Boucher will be back in the lineup tonight against the New York Islanders at Mellon arena.
John Curry will be in net. His first action this season was against the Islanders on November 26th when he went in after Sabourin was pulled. He had another game a few games later against the Sabres. Curry just wants to contribute a win tonight, he is well aware of how badly the team needs a win after the losses recently.

The Pens have sent Ben Lovejoy back to the Baby Pens today.

The Islanders are in a bit of a losing slump recently just like the Pens. Both teams will be desperate for a win. Joey MacDonald, the goaltender for the Islanders, has not been as dominant as of late so we will have to see if he has gotten back on track or if he is still on shaky ground.
I hope the Pens come out strong and just keep working to create chances. Their chances did not go their way last night in the loss to the Devils, but if they continue to work hard, the chances have to eventually go in the Pens' favor! The power play is where some of these chances need to happen for the Pens as it still struggles.

Pens vs. Wild tonight.

The Pens will host the Minnesota Wild tonight.
With Fluery out due to injury, Sabourin will be in and the Pens called up John Curry from the Baby Pens as back-up.
The Wild have a strong system and have been playing well so far this season. The Pens will need to capitalize on their power play chances tonight against a system like the Wild's.

John Curry was sent down to the Baby Pens and we are already aware that Janne Pesonen was sent down as well.

Jeff Taffe was placed on waivers and Kris Beech was placed on unconditional waivers. It has been reported recently in the past weeks that Beech has an interest in playing in Europe.

Sykora is expected to miss Saturday's game, according to coach Michel Therrien.

Scavenger Hunt in Sweden.

The Pens have had a rushed preseason schedule and that also means less time for team bonding. However, Pens management found a way of fitting it into their cramped schedule. What better way than team scavenger hunts in Sweden?

The link is a blog from an NHL.com writer about his adventure with "Team Volvo," which consisted of Hal Gill, Evgeni Malkin, Eric Godard, and John Curry. They finished well behind the other groups, it took them over 4 hours to complete the hunt! However, Gill made sure it was not boring. Cracking jokes and carrying around a viking horn made the journey that much more fun for this group! It was also great for sightseeing, as part of its purpose other then bonding, and they were all over taking a bus ride and a boat ride and of course walking.
Here are some links for photos from "Team Volvo's" journey and other teams as well from NHL.com and feel free to look through more on NHL.com.
